Crowds Cheer on Alex Portugal, Lead vocalist of Destruction of a King. As the band perform for their fans
On October 4th 2013, a free show was being held at Veterans Park for one night only. This was a part of a series of concerts being held at Veterans Park. The lineup for the free show was Destruction of a King, Liv, The Wolf Lair, Crimespree, Concrete Jungle, and Rotting Out. How was the concert being held free at Veterans Park? We can all thank JDCA (Joseph Daniel California), a clothing company based from the South Bay. JDCA was responsible for pulling off a free show and being able to sell his Disney inspired merchandise. “I make shirts that Disney would never sell. I basically managed this whole show. I just want to bring the community together.” states Joseph Daniel of JDCA. JDCA took over a month to manage the free concert. “It was really hectic, everyone [JDCA] wanted to bring the local [Hardcore] scene together.”  Not only JDCA was there supporting the bands. Many of the bands performing at the show were excited to perform at Veterans Park.  Alex Portugal, lead vocalist of Destruction of a King stated, “I like the idea of free shows; it’s good to see the kids hang out and check the music out. We [Destruction of a King] played our first show at Veterans Park. And the fact that it’s also a skate park makes it cool.”  During the show, people were hanging out with their friends, checking out the bands performing, and buying merchandise. Even some people were going into the mosh pit and having fun. The show attracted many people from the South Bay area: including Carson Complex students. “It’s always good to support local bands because most bands started here performing at Vets,” stated PAMA student Veronica Lopez. Overall, the show was a major success among the bands and the crowd. The biggest performance of the night was Rotting Out and Destruction of a King. Due to them being the biggest headliners of the free show via social media. The show had a pretty raw and a very energetic feel to it. I enjoyed all of the bands performing. Overall, the show was worth going to and checking out some very talented local bands.
